书内收1923年陈独秀在广东高等师范学校内的三次演讲,题目分别是《我们为什么相信社会主义》、《我们相信何种社会主义》和《社会主义如何在中国开始进行》。三篇演讲分别由赖特才、侯昌龄、丁愿、郭瘦真、李立成等人纪录整理而成,并于1924年5月出版发行。该书一出版,便很快售罄。随后一版再版,至1927年2月此书出版时已经为第9版。书品基本完好,38页,封三为版权页,上印“民国十三年五月初版印行,民国十六年二月九版”,“编辑者:新青年社”,“总发行所:汉口长江书店”。存世罕见,为珍贵的革命文献。

《初刻拍案惊奇》内容很复杂,思想倾向也不尽相同。故事题材虽多出自前代著述,但经过凌氏的再创作,却表现着晚明的社会现实和时代气息,浸含着凌氏本人的思想观念和愤世俗的不平之气。 《初刻拍案惊奇》中具有认识价值和积极意义的作品主要以下二类: 其一是描写商人思想行径、命运遭际的作品。《转运汉遇巧洞庭红,波斯胡指破鼍龙壳》首次描写海外贸易的内容,通过文若虚经商的命运和致富过程的描写,对商人发财欲望加以肯定。《李公佐巧解梦中言,谢小娥智擒船上盗》,描写了申兰、申春伙同盗贼打劫暴富的现象。这类作品客观上反映了明代中叶后由于资本主义萌芽所带来的经商热和当时商业活动的一些特点,也反映了当时人们对商人看法的变化,说明商人和商业在小说中进一步被关注和肯定。 其二是描写婚恋的作品。在这类作品中,凌氏表现了较为进步的妇女观和婚姻观。《张溜儿巧布迷魂阵,陆蕙娘立决到头缘》,表现女主人公陆蕙娘具有“能从萍水识檀郎”的慧眼,赞扬她“巧机反借机来用”的勇敢机智,肯定她逃脱拐子丈夫张溜儿纠缠与情投意合的情人私奔的行为,表现出一种新的道德观念。《酒下酒赵尼娱迷花,机中机贾秀才报怨》写巫娘子受编失身后,贾秀才不但能理解她,还与她一起报仇,也体现了新的观念。《通闺闱坚心灯火,闹囹圄捷报旗铃》写罗惜惜对父母包办婚姻的反抗;《宣徽院仕女秋千会,清安寺夫妇笑啼缘》写少女速歌失里与父母悔盟迫嫁行为的斗争。这类作品表现了倡真情、反礼教的思想,反映了市民的思想趣味。
